We ordered the Supreme set at RM498 per person. Before coming, I had high expectations, but after trying it, I must say the sashimi was not as fresh as what I had before. Sorry to say this, but since it is sashimi, freshness is very important to avoid any risk of bacterial infection.

The most disappointing part was the mirugai sashimi. The first time I ordered it, it was nice, so I reordered. But the second serving had a strong fishy smell. I asked the waiter to change it, but the replacement still had the same smell.

Overall, the experience was okay but for a bill of over RM1,000, I feel it’s slightly on the high side. The food was not as fresh as I expected — some sashimi even had a fishy taste.

That said, I have to give credit to the service and environment. The staff were attentive and even surprised us with a cake for our anniversary, which was a very nice gesture.

We came here on Thursday for lunch, and we tried the Supreme Set for 486++ per person, which includes cocktails, beers, sake and plenty of king crab or stone crab.

Overall, the quality of the food is higher then other all you can eat a la carte buffet, but you pay for it.

One thing you need to be aware of is the although the booking is from 1PM to 3PM sitting, you find out at 2:30Pm that you must put in your last order for food or drinks. The good thing is that they don’t rush you out at 3PM.

I liked the king crabs in any style they had with the exception of the King Crab Cheese Yaki, but it was still edible.
The last order of steamed King Crab was a bit saltier. Maybe they were out of it, and cooked it in a rush. Now, I know why I like the American way of dipping it in the butter sauce.

The caviar was also good but different from what I am used to with toast melba.
I definitely, recommend to try the Caviar Cone and the Umi Cone, which are served in the waffle cone.
The platter with Scampi, Aka and Ama Abi was delicious and made me feel like back in Japan.
The Aburi Wagyu Sukiyaki was very good too.
Keep in mind that the portions are pretty small, and I think this is good cause it helps to limit waste.

The Rum & Sprite was surprisingly not too sweet, but strangely served in Martini glass straight up. Anyway, all the cocktails have a good amount of booze in it.

Absolutely the best seafood Japanese buffet I’ve been to! The variety is amazing — fresh sashimi, juicy prawns, oysters, grilled seafood, and so many other delicious dishes. Everything was super fresh and well-prepared. The price is very reasonable for the quality and selection you get, definitely the best value around. Staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better.

If you’re a fan of fresh sashimi and authentic Japanese-style buffets, Hut Dining is truly a hidden gem worth discovering. From the moment we stepped in, we were warmly greeted by their friendly and attentive staff. They were always ready with a smile, quick to assist, and made sure our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.

The buffet spread was impressive — offering a wide variety of sashimi, sushi, grilled items, and cooked dishes that cater to every palate. The sashimi, in particular, stood out for its freshness and generous portions — thick cuts of salmon, tuna, and butterfish that practically melted in the mouth. Each dish was beautifully presented and constantly replenished, showing the team’s commitment to quality.

What made the meal even better was the comfortable and cozy atmosphere, perfect for both family gatherings and casual hangouts with friends. Every visit feels like a trip to Japan without leaving town!

Overall, Hut Dining delivers on quality, service, and value. Highly recommended for anyone craving a premium sashimi buffet with warm hospitality and a delightful dining experience. ❤️

One of the best Japanese dining experiences I’ve had in KL! Every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with authentic flavour. Everything exceeded expectations. The cheesecake here is one of the best I ever had in my life, it has soft texture and balanced sweetness that really goes well with the cream. Hands down, 10/10.

I enjoyed the starter and mains as well. The Unagi Kabayaki Roll is a must try for me. The Seafood Paella was an explosion of flavors. The Miso Salmon was tender and juicy.

We were well served by our friendly waiter, Imran.

Most definitely will be coming here again in the future.

The only thing nice is the miso salmon’s mushroom. The beef curry tasted beefy, and it might be too strong to some. The egg was very normal

The chicken stuffed dumpling was okay, the sushi was really normal. Just like a normal salmon sushi. I don’t really understand what the hype is about, but the price is fair.

The service was kinda bad though , not sure if we are just unlucky. First off we made reservations and when we tried to speak to a stuff about it, she brushed us off until we had to speak again with another staff.

Then the waiter that was serving us apparently got my order wrong and served chicken instead of my original beef curry and we had to correct them. And the beef curry was served much later when my companion nearly finishes her salmon.

We started with the stuffed chicken wing dumpling, but the meat turned out quite dry and disappointing. For the mains, the salmon had a slightly fishy taste, and the paella was just average. On the brighter side, the kids’ beef curry was surprisingly good.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the cheesecake – smooth, rich, and delicious.

Overall, nothing much to shout about except the cheesecake. Price-wise, it’s slightly on the higher side.

Cheers!

Visited this bar around 1am and ordered a few skewers along with a drink. Tried the chicken thigh, mozzarella cheese with chicken, lamb, and mushroom skewers — all were pretty good, though the prices are on the higher side. I also had the Berry Mint Cooler, which I found pretty decent for the price. Overall, a nice late-night spot with good skewers and drinks.

This izakaya is truly worth recommending! It’s the only one open until late night, making it perfect for supper or gatherings. The food is not only unique but also very fresh — from skewers to side dishes and mains, everything tastes great. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, whether you’re here for a drink or a late-night meal.

What surprised me the most was their salmon — the outside is marinated with beetroot, which is really special and delicious!
Definitely coming back again!

Make sure you make a table reservation.
This restaurant is busy and rightly so.
The service from the moment you walk is top notch.
The menu as a huge selection, there truly is something for all.
We chose 4 dishes and all were high quality, possibly better than we had when in Japan. Fresh and all very presented.
Knowledge staff that are happy to talk you through the menu.

The chef’s sashimi platter was absolutely outstanding—every piece showcased its freshness with thick, expertly crafted cuts that melted in the mouth. The highlight was the thoughtful gesture by the waiter to deep-fry the prawn head, transforming it into a delightful crispy treat and offering a unique way to enjoy this often-overlooked part. This creative twist truly elevated the dish.

The ramen was a comforting and delicious bowl, perfectly balanced with just the right level of spice. The broth was rich and flavorful without overwhelming the senses, and the noodles were cooked to perfection, retaining a springy texture that made each bite satisfying. It was a dish crafted with care and attention.

The small bites of fried ebi were a delightful surprise—golden and crispy, showcasing skillful frying techniques. What impressed me most was how they remained crunchy even after some time, a testament to the quality and preparation. Every bite was a burst of flavor and texture that left a lasting impression.

To top off the meal, the highball happy hour deal was fantastic—refreshing and well-priced at 3 for RM 58. It was the perfect accompaniment to the culinary journey, offering a great way to unwind and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

A huge thank you to the chef and service crew for your hospitality, attentiveness, and warm smiles. Every interaction was welcoming, and your dedication to ensuring a memorable dining experience did not go unnoticed. From the quality of the dishes to the care in service, everything came together beautifully.

Your team’s effort and passion for delivering excellence were evident throughout the evening. Keep up the amazing work—I am already looking forward to my next visit.

You know you’re in the right place when you see a table full of Japanese guests laughing and enjoying themselves! From the moment we arrived, the local staff were incredibly attentive, delivering the same warm hospitality you would expect in Japan.

The sashimi selection was exceptional — the fish was perfectly aged, cut into mouthful-sized pieces, and bursting with flavor. The prawn sashimi was wonderfully fresh, and the highlight was the second dish made by frying the prawn heads — crispy, delicious, and thoughtfully done. Even the fried baby prawns stayed crisp until the very end of our meal.

The grilled squid was cooked to perfection, tender and easy to enjoy without the usual chewiness that comes from overcooking.

Overall, this izakaya is an outstanding choice if you’re looking for authentic Japanese food at great value. A big thank you to the hardworking chefs behind the scenes and the wonderful serving staff who made the experience even more memorable!

My friends and I had dinner at Tono Izakaya on a Friday. It was busy but we managed to get a booth table, which was really comfortable!

We highly recommend parking at Parkroyal Service Suites, just opposite the restaurant. The parking fee was a flat rate of RM5 during the time we went.

I ordered the wagyu don and the zucchini yakitori. Both were delicious! My friends also enjoyed their food (see pics for what they ordered) service was great too! Although on a pricier side, I would say that the quality of the food justifies the price. Highly recommend this place!

The food at Tono Izakaya Changkat KL is quite good – especially the grilled skewers and unagi rice, which are definitely worth trying. The sushi is fresh, and the fish slices are thick and generous.
However, I was quite disappointed to find a large piece of plastic inside the salmon sashimi. I hope the restaurant will be more careful with food preparation, especially for raw dishes, to ensure hygiene and safety. On the bright side, the staff were very friendly and attentive, which made the experience more pleasant. I hope to see improvements in the future

Had a really enjoyable dinner here at Kobu, the staff here are really attentive and the food quality is value for money.

Shoutout to Chef Jeff, who paid attention to our preferences and even suggested the number of portion for us to order so that our meal don’t get too heavy. It was a delightful experience. Highly recommended!

Had the pleasure to dine here for the wagyu buffet. This is a return visit with my previous visit at the PJ outlet. They have revamped the menu and the variety and value is even better for the new menu. Absolutely value for money, a good treat for special occasions.

The quality of the wagyu and the cuts are undoubtedly the best, no scraps are served here!

Our chef for the day – Dani and the sashimi chef – Koko were enthusiastic and excellent at their jobs, provided us the best dining experience. Will definitely return and hope that they will be our chefs again!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (If I could, I’d give more than 5 stars!)

Visited Kobu for my birthday celebration and tried their new course menu. Although it’s promoted for small appetites, both me and my boyfriend ended up very full and completely satisfied!!!

Every dish was impressive — carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious

The experience felt thoughtfully curated from start to finish. A place I’d recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Special thanks to Chef Ethan — his warm service, and personal touch elevated the meal. Every dish felt like a piece of art, both in flavour and presentation!

Celebrated our wedding anniversary here. Atmosphere was cozy and nice. We could already sensed the excellent service we’re gonna get as we walked in, and it did not disappoint. Communication was clear and all related information was explained to us.
The food was just superb, with every dish carefully and beautifully prepared. Our chef, Jeff, took special effort to brief us on every dish, making it much more enjoyable as we savoured each course. He’s very friendly and was very attentive to our needs, and would always check on our food preferences. Our server was also full of initiatives, constantly checking if we’d need more refills.
What a wonderful and lovely meal we had. It’s just perfect! Well done, Kobu team!!!

Had the RM888 buffet at KOBU KL, served by Ethan, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish.

Ethan made the entire dining experience truly enjoyable — attentive, friendly, and professional. Every dish was prepared perfectly:
• Wagyu cooked to medium perfection, juicy and tender.
• Fresh sea urchin with caviar — luxurious and unforgettable.
• Beef tongue cooked just right, flavorful and unique.
• Australian wagyu of excellent quality.
• King crab that was fresh, sweet, and absolutely delicious.

Ethan ensured everything was served at the best timing and made sure we were comfortable throughout the evening. His service really elevated the whole dining experience.

Highly recommend asking for Ethan when you visit. You’ll be in great hands!

Probably one of the most satisfying buffet experiences I’ve had! I made a reservation a few weeks in advance to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday — we both love Japanese food, and this place did not disappoint

Service was great and there was no dining time limit, so we didn’t feel rushed at all. The seafood was super fresh — truly living the salmon dream ‍ Everything on the menu was available to order freely, and the food came out really fast too!

The environment was lovely and calm. Definitely coming back again! Oh — and we ended the meal with three scoops of ice cream : chocolate, matcha, and black sesame. Perfect finish! ❤️

What an experience! I found this place while looking for Japanese restaurants on maps and was intrigued by the reviews and decided to give it a try. First time I went by they were fully booked, but they booked me in for the following day. And was very glad to go. The buffet menu was very exciting and had many items I never tried before. The quality of the food, especially sea food, was very excellent and I sampled a few items and wished I could eat more. Eventually after rounds of sampling, my stomach was waving the white flag. I would definitely come back again. The price was very reasonable, came up to 90+MR, which is fair compared to others with same type in the area. Go go it, highly recommend!

We had a very good Japanese buffet at Mitasu, Bukit Bintang. The restaurant offers a wide selection of dishes, with plenty of fresh sashimi and seafood that were really enjoyable. Both the beef and salmon teppanyaki were cooked nicely and tasted great. On top of the good food quality, the price is also reasonable, making it a worthwhile place to dine for Japanese buffet lovers.

Mitasu is our Go to place for high-quality japanese food in KL❤️
The A la Carte all-you-can eat Buffet has everything you could possibly want- fresh sashimi, Sushi, Maki, Temaki, Teppanyaki, Tempura and so much more. The waiters are all extremely friendly and the service very efficient.
We’ve had the privilege of dining here 2 times during our holiday and can’t wait to be back.❤️
P.s. However, you do need to make a reservation several days in advance to get a table because it gets very busy, especially on the weekends.

I came here two times for ala carte buffet lunch. Majority of the menu items are good. Sashimi is fresh, and I love their scallops.

There are some items not so nice like those in deep fried section. Avoid order too much at one go and make sure to test the quality first. Salmon is cooked a bit too dry…

There are not much drink selection so don’t expect much there. They do have quite decent dessert menu. The ice scream and chocolate moose is good.

Please do booking as well. Most likely no tables during the weekends.

For the price of an à la carte Japanese buffet, Mitasu definitely deserves 5 stars. Great value for money, especially with the wide variety of dishes available. Special mention of the beef teppanyaki. So tender and juicy.

I noticed some reviews mentioning that the sashimi isn’t fresh — honestly, I find that a bit misleading. For your information, all sashimi-grade fish is flash-frozen to maintain safety and quality before being sliced fresh for serving. Since this is an à la carte buffet, it’s unlikely that the restaurant would refreeze unused blocks of fish.

Also, from personal experience, when you eat too much sashimi in one sitting, your palate can get overwhelmed — and your brain may start telling you it’s not as fresh, even if it is. Try ordering multiple rounds of sashimi at premium places like Nobu, and you might feel the same after a while.

One small complaint: avoid the fried scallop — it’s not real scallop but more like processed seafood (similar to crab sticks). On the other hand, they use real scallop for the baked ones.

All in all, Mitasu offers solid Japanese food at a very reasonable buffet price. Worth trying, imagine ordering unlimited rounds in Rakuzen.

Generally this is a good choice of place for a Japanese buffet. Price and quality aspect quite balanced, and variety of food choices available. In term of food taste, I would say decent. So, set your expectations right before step into a buffet places like this because you can’t expect a top notch quality when paying for a price lower than RM100/person.

Overall experience I would say quite satisfying. It’s a 7/10 for me 😀

Nestled along the Old Klang Road, despite limited parking space, the establishment offers valet assistance.

The culinary offerings are of above-average quality, with flavours that are pleasing but lacking in exceptionality.

However, the service aspect falls short of expectations. The staff exhibits a lack of attentiveness, omitting essential items such as hot hand towels and overlooking orders. Additionally, they demonstrate a sluggish pace in clearing tables and refilling beverages.

My visit to was a mixed experience: While the atmosphere and service were impeccable, the food did not live up to the high price point. It was good, but not exceptional enough to justify the cost. However, the dessert was a complete standout. The mango dessert was one of the best I’ve ever had, a perfect and memorable end to the meal. If I were to return, it would be solely for that exceptional sweet treat.

Nobu KL really impressed us!
The ambiance was elegant and bright. The staff were super friendly and made us feel at home from the start.

The food was beautifully presented and tasted great. Portions were a bit small, but everything was packed with flavor. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, and the chocolate mousse cake was rich, and smooth, I loved the dessert! The salmon with crispy leaves was a bit fishy for my taste.

Overall, we had a really good time. Would definitely come back again!

Nobu’s desserts stole the show! Nobu is a world famous name for dining, but we were taken aback by how good the desserts were. Usually desserts are the sweetener after a meal but this time, the sheer creative combination of taste and texture left us wanting for more – and more we did. We started with the fried banana paired with sesame ice cream then Nobu’s renown cheesecake and finished off with a new creation that delighted our palates – watermelon. Don’t let the simple names deceive you, it’s how they came together so perfectly, light yet with sufficient bite, tangy yet sweet, not heavy nor cloying like how some desserts leave you feeling. If you came to Nobu Kuala Lumpur just for the desserts alone, it would have been worth your while.

A Taste of Elegance – Nobu Kuala Lumpur Lunch Set Review

Perched high above the city, Nobu Kuala Lumpur offers a dining experience where Japanese precision meets Peruvian flair. I recently dropped by for their lunch set, and it turned into a delightful afternoon escape.

The meal began with a crispy shiitake mushroom salad, and I have to say – it was love at first bite. The earthy crunch of the mushrooms, lightly dressed, felt unique and refreshing. Next came the tuna sashimi salad – silky slices of tuna balanced by a tangy dressing that made each bite feel perfectly harmonious.

For the mains, the salmon arrived tender and flavorful, though the crispy leaf on the side leaned a bit too heavy on the oil. The sushi set was fresh and clean-tasting, but nothing that pushed the boundaries of creativity. The grilled cod was slightly overdone, with its edges turning dark, yet the miso-infused sweetness still managed to shine through.

Dessert was pure indulgence – a playful spread of ice cream flavors, from classic vanilla to more adventurous options, making it hard to choose just one.

Service was polished yet warm, and the ambiance was exactly what you’d expect from Nobu – elegant, serene, and perfect for lingering conversations. While some dishes could use a little refining, the overall experience was satisfying, with moments of culinary brilliance worth returning for.

Frequently Asked Questions about Japanese Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur

What types of Japanese cuisine can I find in Kuala Lumpur?

Kuala Lumpur boasts a diverse range of Japanese culinary experiences. You can find everything from authentic sushi and ramen to tempura, yakitori, okonomiyaki, and even more specialized dishes like kaiseki. Many restaurants offer a combination of these, providing a broad spectrum of options to explore.

How do I distinguish between an authentic Japanese restaurant and one that caters more to local tastes?

Distinguishing between authenticity and localized adaptation can be tricky. Look for restaurants with Japanese chefs and staff. Menus written primarily in Japanese, alongside English, often indicate a focus on tradition. Pay attention to the use of imported ingredients—authentic restaurants will often prioritize them. Review online reviews and look for comments specifically addressing authenticity.

What is the typical price range for a meal at a Japanese restaurant?

The price range at Japanese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur can vary widely. A casual ramen shop might cost around RM20-RM35 per person, while a higher-end sushi restaurant or a restaurant offering kaiseki could easily exceed RM100-RM200+ per person. Many restaurants offer set menus at fixed prices, providing a more predictable cost.

Are reservations necessary, and if so, how far in advance should I book?

Reservations are highly recommended, especially for popular or high-end restaurants. Booking several days or even weeks in advance is often necessary, particularly for weekend dinners or special occasions. Smaller, more intimate restaurants may benefit from advance bookings to ensure seating.

What is the etiquette for dining at a Japanese restaurant?

Japanese dining has specific etiquette guidelines. It's customary to say "itadakimasu" (いただきます) before eating and "gochisousama deshita" (ごちそうさまでした) after. Avoid sticking chopsticks upright in a bowl of rice, as this is a gesture associated with funerals. When passing food, use your chopsticks to place it directly onto your companion’s plate, or offer them the chopstick handles.

What are some popular areas in Kuala Lumpur to find Japanese restaurants?

Several areas in Kuala Lumpur are known for their concentration of Japanese restaurants. Jalan Alor offers a mix of options, including some Japanese establishments. Damansara Heights and Bangsar also have a good selection. The Bukit Bintang area is another popular choice, catering to a range of tastes.

Do Japanese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur cater to dietary restrictions, such as vegetarian or gluten-free needs?

Many Japanese restaurants are becoming more accommodating of dietary restrictions. Vegetarian options are increasingly available, often featuring tofu and vegetable-based dishes. However, many traditional Japanese dishes contain gluten (soy sauce, ramen noodles). It’s important to inform the restaurant of any allergies or restrictions when making a reservation or ordering.

What are some differences between Japanese ramen and other noodle soups?

Japanese ramen differs from other noodle soups through its characteristic broth—often made with pork, chicken, or seafood—and its toppings, which commonly include chashu pork, soft-boiled eggs, seaweed, and bamboo shoots. The noodles themselves are also unique, possessing a chewy texture due to specific alkaline ingredients used in their production.

How can I tell if the sushi is fresh?

Assessing sushi freshness is crucial. The fish should have a bright color and a fresh, clean smell. Avoid sushi that looks dull or has an overly pungent odor. The rice should also be slightly warm and have a glossy sheen. It’s often a good sign if the restaurant has a visible sushi counter.

Are there any Japanese dessert options available?

Japanese desserts offer a unique and often subtle sweetness. You can find treats like mochi (rice cakes), dorayaki (red bean pancakes), matcha ice cream, and various types of Japanese cheesecake. These desserts frequently feature ingredients like red bean paste, green tea, and rice flour.
