Best museums in Kuala Lumpur: find options near you

Visited during the school holidays with my kids and it was such a fun experience! We bought the tickets online which was very convenient. There are so many interesting places for children to explore and learn, plus a nice café to relax. The 3D show was really amazing and entertaining. Highly recommended to visit and enjoy every corner and activity there!

This discovery centre is so well put together! It’s fully air-conditioned, so maybe bring a jumper for the little ones. It wasn’t overcrowded during our visit — we booked tickets in advance, but even the queue for buying tickets was minimal (probably because we visited outside the Malaysian holidays).

There’s so much to see and do here, so be prepared for a full day — it really keeps the kids interested and engaged. My personal favourite part was right at the end: the dinosaurs! Definitely a great family outing, and the ticket price is very reasonable for what you get.

We didn’t buy in advance as we are unsure what time we can really make it so we bought on the spot when we reach there. I didn’t validate this but the staff told another customer that both online and physical ticket price are the same.

We spent almost a good 3 hours inside and really well managed queue system compared to Aquaria. Due to the birthday free promo, although I can get a free ticket, I chose to not take it reason for the bad queue management and having two children, it’s not great to queue long unnecessarily.

Best 3 hours spent on a public hols.

Our visit to Petrosains in August 2025 was absolutely amazing — easily one of the most informative and entertaining experiences we’ve had in Kuala Lumpur. This science discovery centre is a brilliant mix of facts, hands-on experiences, and science gamification that keeps both kids and adults fully engaged.

We spent almost 4 hours exploring, and the kids were as impressed as they were fascinated — they simply didn’t want to leave! They loved learning about space, the fascinating dinosaurs area, Formula 1 technology, the gas and oil industry, and vertical agriculture. The mind control experiments, earthquake simulations, and 3D movie were huge hits too. Every section is designed to spark curiosity, making science both fun and unforgettable.

It’s the kind of place where you leave with your head buzzing with new knowledge and your heart happy from all the fun.

Tip: Plan at least half a day here — there’s so much to see and do, and you won’t want to rush.

A haven of discovery,this place is an adventure like no other! Young and old are welcome here to learn fun facts about the world around us, there is something for everyone for sure! Buying tickets in advance is highly recommended and the add-on Energy Capsule ride (sold separately from main ticket) was an eye-opening experience. Truly had an amazing time at the Petrosains Discovery Centre,thank you for the experience!

Fantastic value for money, with several hours of fun and learning involved. There really is something for all ages and its very well built and maintained.

My partner and I are in our 20’s and we loved it. The science, the scenery, the fun activities as well as the stations that they have to teach you about the interesting subject matters that they have chosen.

I hope this review isnt to vague as I didnt want to give to much away as you really should experience it for yourself.

My favourite was the motorbike simulator 😉

Absolutely loved our visit to Petrosains Discovery Centre. Booking tickets in advance is a must as slots fill up quickly. We got the first entry time at 9:30 and while there was already a queue, it moved fast and the crowd inside was much lighter compared to later in the day.

There are so many exhibits to explore with themes like space and dinosaurs, plus fun science games like a pulley you can use to lift yourself. The dinosaur section was the kids’ favorite. They also enjoyed the small playground and the arts and crafts area where the staff were very kind and engaging.

Do note that no food or drink is allowed inside. Food can be stored in lockers but drinks cannot, so finish them before entering. We spent hours inside and still felt there was more to discover. A fantastic spot in Kuala Lumpur for families with kids.

Я считаю, что этот музей обязательно стоит посетить. Для знакомства с ним будет достаточно 2-3 часов.

Музей небольшой, но очень компактный. В нём есть отдельные зоны, посвящённые текстилю, планировке, мечетям, оружию и другим аспектам исламской культуры. Было интересно сравнить, как исламские традиции представлены в Малайзии и Индии.

Le Musée des arts islamiques de Malaisie est tout simplement exceptionnel. Dès l’entrée, on est frappé par l’élégance du lieu, l’architecture apaisante et la richesse des expositions. Chaque salle est magnifiquement présentée, avec une muséographie soignée et une lumière parfaitement maîtrisée.
Les collections sont impressionnantes : manuscrits anciens, céramiques, textiles, calligraphies, armes, maquettes de mosquées du monde entier… Chaque pièce raconte une histoire et témoigne de la diversité et de la beauté de l’art islamique à travers les siècles et les cultures.

素晴らしい美術館です。
イスラム美術がたくさんあって、良くあるカリグラフィーだけではなく絵画、衣装、陶器、ガラス製品などもまとめて観れるとこは日本には無いので大変面白かったです。
またマレーシアに行ったら行きたいです。

ホテルから別のホテルに移動途中に寄りましたが、ストレージにスーツケース無料で預かってくれます。
入場料はクレジットカードも使えました。

Wonderful experience at the museum. It has a total of 4 floors of exhibits. We spent around 2 hours+ but we could have if we are not pressing for time. My 9 year old son enjoyed playing with the interactive exhibits and learning not only about money but much more than that. There is also art gallery on the 3rd floor of the museum. Will revisit again another time since it is free and will gladly pay even if it is not. Good place to visit during school holidays and even for foreign tourists too. One thing to note the lack of signages pointing towards the basement carpark area from the main road. Some exhibits also appeared to be out of order during our visits. Other than that, no complains.

Visiting with kids during the school holidays was truly worth it. The money tunnel was a highlight and very exciting for children. Every section and activity in the museum was fun and educational for visitors. The only drawback was that the lockers were not sufficient to store belongings. Overall, it was an enjoyable and meaningful family experience

Stunning & cool museum that’s absolutely a Must visit. The place looks new & modern with abundant informative, attractive displays of miniature props to see & hear more than just about money & currencies. But most of the items display cannot be touched, although I see almost everybody trying to touch everything. Love the presentations of everything. They’re combinations of futuristic, artistic models, props that put together into fabulous masterpieces of knowledge & arts. The entire museum are fantastic to take photos. Excellent for all ages & extremely kids friendly with kids activities, kids will definitely find this place heavenly. You could spend 1 whole day there as it’s massive with abundant of things to see, learn & do. Nevertheless, the facilities are top notched with clean, comfortable Washroom, prayer halls, the muslimah side are so spacious, beautiful & even came with complete skin care for women. And there is a cafe at the Ground floor. Please take note that you cannot take any bags nor water when you do your tour there. You have to rent a locker or put them in big boxes the museum provided. The lockers system are refundable deposits of minimum RM10. And the museum is FREE. What more can you ask for ?

It was a fun experience for family and children. The children section was very interactive and the kids had fun. There were about four levels to explore. There were a lot of interesting information and facts about coins and notes and currencies from all around the world. The staff were very friendly. The museum was very well maintained. I recommend people to come and visit.

honestly I didn’t expect the Bank Negara Museum to be this big. From the outside, it looks quite modest, like an office building, doesn’t look like a museum at all, but once you’re inside, there’s so much to explore, from Malaysia’s financial history to interactive exhibits on money and economics. The galleries are spacious, well-curated, and surprisingly modern. It’s not just about banking; there’s even an art gallery and a children’s section. There is no entry fee, you can also keep your bags in the locker for free by just depositing 10 rm that you get back later. Its definitely a good place to visit, I spent around 3 hours there, which I wasn’t expecting to either, 3 entire floors and different galleries to see. Overall Id say it was a pretty good experience, and definitely worth visiting.

The parking was free.
Just go towards ground level parking. It’s lot of parking lot and don’t risk your car by parking near the road curb. There LG4 & LG5 for visitor. Next take lift to G floor and your journey begin.
Enjoy the museum with your children. There are spiral staircase and transparent lift. It’s was good education to us as an adult to understand how bank Negara, the money history during Japanese time, British time, etc.

It was my first time at the National Art Gallery, I enjoyed it thoroughly, I’m most interested in the paintings There were some amazing ones, that made me ponder the inspiration behind it and there are some that definitely have meaningful stories behind them, war, mental health and so on. One painting stood out to me, from an unknown painter, it was a mural taken from a railway station, I think. It was from 1940s! How awesome is that! I wish I had more time to explore more, I only got to see 2 exhibitions as I had to run somewhere else. Anyways,the staff were helpful, the place was comfortable, not too crowded, and serene. There’s an artistic cafe behind the ladies toilet at the same level as the lobby, the food was as good as the advertisement and it has a chill relaxing vibe. Definitely going to visit again!

An ideal gallery to spend a morning or afternoon enjoying interesting and varied exhibitions. A great place to get closer to art and discover new proposals. I’m not sure if admission is always free, but we only had to do a quick registration on our phone without paying anything.

​展馆所有作品都是我非常喜欢的色调融入在一起的总集艺术成果，极高的艺术享受和心灵的快乐充实解读故事其中的意义。非常值得来参观一次感受视觉的冲击和内在的精神享受。

We visited this art gallery to experience the immersion exhibit. It was a little small but a really commendable effort. The other art exhibits on two other floors were also interesting. They had paintings, digital art, sculptures and more. Entrance is free and staff were
very welcoming. A great place in KL to get a dose of art.

Honestly I feel like the gallery has seriously failed the artists who exhibit their work here. This review has nothing to do with the quality of work here, but the amount of people touching the work, adults letting their children running and shouting in the exhibition room and even people on their phones on speaker.

The more outstanding work I see, the more heartbreaking I felt to the point I had to leave and return in an earlier time. This gallery need to do have serious reconstruction to prevent these sort of disrespect from happening again, as an art lover I’m more than willing to pay for tickets to sustain the function of the gallery but also eliminate any people who doesn’t respect the artist’s work and this art space.

認真覺得這間國家藝術館對不起那些把自己作品放在這裡展出的藝術家們。不敢相信有多少人在場內大聲喧嘩、觸碰展品、在展廳內講電話、甚至讓小孩子們到處奔跑大叫。

越是看到喜歡的作品就越是難過到想哭，這麼好的作品們就浪費在不當管理的展出空間裡，逛到二樓就受不了離開了，等之後早晨開館時再來看看是否有空間能安靜的享受。

管理者們需要認真檢討營運方式，還給這些作品與創作者們他們應得的展出空間。作為藝術愛好者，我非常願意付門票以保證展館的運營即觀展者的品質。非常非常可惜。

El Museo Nacional de Textiles nos llamó la atención por su fachada morisca impresionante: cúpulas, arcos y detalles que ya valen la parada. Solo pudimos verlo por fuera, pero aun así se lleva varias fotos y un buen “wow”.

Tip viajero: si te interesa la historia del batik y las telas malayas, revisa horarios para entrar; queda justo frente a la Plaza Merdeka, así que es una parada fácil de combinar.

Un edificio precioso y fotogénico, aunque solo lo veas desde afuera.

I’ve always wanted to visit this museum and finally had the chance today! It was a decent experience, worth spending about 30 minutes exploring. The entrance fee is RM2 for Malaysian adults and RM5 for non-Malaysian adults, while children under six can enter for free.

An interesting museum displaying over 4 different exhibitions over 2 floors. A great way to learn about the history of the textile world across the different cultures in Malaysia.

RM 5 per ticket for foreign visitors.

Worth having a quick gander before or after visiting Independence Square or the “I love KL” sign.

Not all the rooms have air conditioning.

Steps away from the River of Life, this is a lovely museum where one can see beautiful creations, and their history.

Depending on your pace. It’s either 40 minutes or a little over an hour. It’s a great place to stay cool and see many beautiful fabrics

Khi đó đi ngang, thấy kiến trúc đẹp nên là đứng lại chụp hình, chứ củng không biết là bảo tàng, nên củng không vào tham quan.

Kalau tak pernah datang please lah datang, tempat ni sangat – sangat lah berbaloi untuk datang. Percayalah anak-anak akan sangat suka dan happy.

You need at least 6 hours or whole day untuk habiskan masa berada dalam ni. Terlalu banyak aktiviti dan tiket pun murah. Sangat berbaloi. Kami datang weekend dan orang-orang sangat lah ramai. Penuh dengan manusia sampai parking penuh. Tempat parking sangat jauh ya, driver boleh drop penumpang dulu dan driver kena parking kat bawah pastu naik bukit untuk ke atas. Agak mencabar dan memerlukan kesabaran tinggi.

Tiket boleh beli on the spot. Murah je no worries. Kalau datang weekend ada macam-macam aktiviti & pertunjukkan. Cuma peralatan agak tak well maintained masa kami datang. Baru dapat tahu yang Pusat Sains Negara ditutup sementara sampai Oct 2025 untuk penambahbaikan. Alhamdullilah. Sememangnya perlu ditambah baik pulih.

Cuma pleaseeee boleh tak upgrade bahagian surau? Surau untuk solat sangat kecil, padat dan maaf berbau bila ramai orang dalam ruangan tu. Lagi-lagi waktu hujung minggu. Orang terlalu ramai tapi surau kecil je. Buat something. Please? Tandas okay, surau je perlu perhatian.

Overall, worth the price worth the time and sangat-sangat recommended untuk semua orang datang! InsyaAllah will come bila dah opening again. Mesti lebih baik!

We recently visited, looking forward to an educational science experience. The exterior was very impressive, with a beautiful rainbow-colored dome roof that added to the excitement. Tickets were RM6 for adults, and the center closes at 5pm.
Upon entering, we enjoyed the aquarium area, where we could observe fish swimming above us through a glass bridge. Inside, the exhibitions covered basic science topics, like natural phenomena, anatomy, radiation principles and so on. However, some equipment was outdated, and a few displays weren’t functioning. Overall, the exhibits seemed better suited for younger visitors as an introduction to science, while for us as adults, they were less engaging.
Since we arrived a bit late, we only explored the main science exhibition and missed several other areas, such as the Pocket Garden, Herbs Garden, Pre-Historic Garden and more. If you’re planning a visit, it’s best to arrive early to fully explore these different zones.
In summary, it was a decent experience, especially for families with kids. We hope that with some maintenance, the center could offer an even better experience in the future.

The ticket price is incredibly affordable, making it a great destination for students, kids, and even adults to enjoy. At the entrance, you’re greeted with a display of freshwater fishes, which is such a delightful way to start the visit.

The space is divided into various sections, including science, IT, marine life, forests, and more. Each section is interactive, allowing you to try out different activities—though you may need to wait for your turn. One of the highlights is how hands-on everything is, which makes it engaging for visitors of all ages.

However, I was a bit disappointed with the IT section as many exhibits were closed during my visit, so I couldn’t fully enjoy that part. Hopefully, it will be improved soon.

For adults who have been out of school for a while, this place is a fantastic way to refresh your knowledge while having fun. It’s a mix of education and entertainment, perfect for a family outing or even a casual day trip.

Tickets are super affordable, with adult Malaysians paying only RM6, and there’s no long queue to purchase them. If you’re interested in the science shows, be sure to check their schedule—they’re held twice daily at 11 AM and 3 PM (if I recall correctly).

Banyak item boleh belajar n main cuma ada a few parts yang disappointing, ada item yg dh rosak x dibaiki. Ada parts barangan2 tu dh lama smpi ada yg bau hapak (ie rope). Banyak pameran sbnrnya tp banyak jugak yg under construction. Masa banyak habis sbb tempat dia luas, pastu x boleh bawak masuk air, jd dekat 3 4 kali jugak ulang alik dr dlm tu ke storage locker sbb nk minum ayaq. tu belum mai dok tgh memusing tu sorg tu lapaq gerik2 dah x leh tahan, sdgkn masa nk p tu dh bg makan kenyang2. Jadi keluaq dr pusat tu p sebelah dia ada juai2 makan2 streetfood. Isi perut n then masuk balik. Yang unexpected, ada pool for kids, tapi sbb x bawak baju mandi so anak2 dinosaur umi membawa hati yang lara sambil tgk org lain mandi. Ada mini taman rama2, nama pun mini jadikla buat aso aso.

The building itself is amazing. Fun to walk about inside the building. Kids can also do some exercises as they have a huge free space and a jungle gym in the middle. The ticket is very reasonable.

, the food was amazing too!

So pretty and attractive! And got so many things to try on! But most of them are not functioning. As it is more scientific , i recommend bringing kids that have prior knowledge in science as they can enjoy it better! But it is also a good introduction for kids without scientific knowledge (bring them during weekdays much better). There is also a mini dinosaur park at the entrance, make sure to ask the guard where to park your car!

Great contemporary art in the unexpected location.
We wanted to see some modern artistic expression, away from your common and popular places. This place offers all that.
A few different forms of expression of the individual local artists displayed in the rather tacked away place.
Definitely worth checking out.

I visited the gallery few days ago and was genuinely impressed, every piece felt thoughtfully curated and the range of styles made the visit exciting from start to finish. The lighting and layout let the art breathe, and each label gave just the right context. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and clearly passionate. A calm, inspiring space for art lovers. I’ll be back for the next exhibition. Highly recommended!

UR-MU surprised me—in the best way.
Tucked in Bukit Bintang, this quiet museum packs a punch. Thoughtful art, bold themes, and a rooftop garden that’s pure chill. Small space, big impact. Worth the visit. If you are student don’t forget to bring your student ID card cause it will be more cheaper than normal price.

Loved the diversity of the collection!! from paintings to installations, every corner sparks curiosity. A refreshing art experience right in the heart of KL.

I haven’t been able to unwind much in KL but my goodness, i just love some good artsy outing. i should’ve done sooner. While we came half an hour early, the staff were so kind to let us in without having to wait for our booked slot. What I love the most is their varied and unique art collections and how they are neatly categorised based on different themes at different floor. Can’t helped but to spend more than 2 hours exploring and appreciating 5 floors worth of amazingness. the place smells good too! and toilet was clean so i need to give 5 out of 5 stars. and the ticket was affordable (RM20 per pax). Definitely will repeat the ur-mu outing at their different galleries as well.

We recently visited the Museum of Illusions in KL with our three kids, and overall, it was a fun and engaging stop. The children especially enjoyed the interactive games, visual illusions, and mind-bending rooms. Their favorite parts were the rotating tunnel and the Ames room, which got plenty of laughs and curious questions.

However, while the experience was entertaining, we were a bit disappointed by how small the museum is. Despite taking our time, we were done in about 45 minutes, which felt quite short considering the entry price. It’s definitely a place that delivers some cool moments for kids and makes for great photos, but don’t plan your day around it—it’s more of a quick activity than a half-day outing.

Great for a short family diversion, but manage your expectations when it comes to size and duration.

Being Located at the Heart of Kuala Lumpur is its plus point. It is located just opposite to Pavilion Mall at Bukit Bintang (Hill Star) road of Kuala Lumpur.
After asking 2-3 security personnel, we reached at the first floor of a building (Lot-8) where it is located.
Ticket was 50 RM , that roughly comes to be ₹1075/- per person.
We entered the museum and it ended before it started. Only one person was there to take your pictures, and she was also quite a bit reluctant in doing that. We had to ask time and again about the activities there ( which were not more than a single digit) and request her to take our picture so that some effect is visible. But, in spite of taking pictures, she was more interested to attend the new customers, to tell them to go to the first floor, where no body was there to guide. There was a single revolving tunnel on the first floor in the name of illusion and a glass cube, whose glass was so much scratched that you were not se our reflection in that, as shown in a nearby display picture.(picture was good)
Whole of the museum was being run by two girls. One at reception and the other behind in a single room of say 20 x 20 feet. The photos will show the total activities and the competence of the staff.

Management should at least teach its staff to be interactive and enthusiastic. Staff should not at that all visitors know everything and can click worth memorable photos.
They should learn something from the enthusiasm of the upside down museum of Penang.

Recommendation
Only go if you have lot of spare time to kill and lot of money to waste.

A quick fun photo trip away from Pavilion. We didn’t want to wait for the long queue in Popmart and we had time before lunch, so we went to the museum. It was much funnier than expected, the place wasn’t huge but we could take all the different photos in the area. There are also small brain teaser games were we spent quite a bit of time. The most interesting room was the purple room with a bridge inside a rolling wall, it felt very dizzy, almost fell down on the floor. We bought the tickets on the spot, no big price difference versus buying online.

Yesterday my friends n I went to this place in KL to find out more about this place. We plan to include this place as part of our program for our reunion of our schoolmates n classmates in July this year. First we have to find out how good is this place. So we approached the staff there n they were very pleasant n friendly. A member of the staff gave us a guided tour of the whole place. There were various rooms for photos such as making you look like a monster, making you upside down, climbing up the wall like Spider-Man, jumping up or down a well n looking like a giant n a dwarf! But all these are only illusions. There are some games too. There are plenty of portraits n pictures for which when you stare longer , the things will start moving in circles . There is a picture in which when you stare at it harder n longer, you will see a portrait of Einstein. There is a short tunnel that once you step on it, it will start turning round n round . It is very noisy but all the motions were only visual. The whole tour n activities took only 45 or 60 minutes only. It should be quite fun for families with kids n pensioners like us as well. But a friend said that in Ipoh, the house of illusions , has more rooms n with better illusions. Anyway we find the price per entry ticket is quite pricey. On the whole, it’s a good visual experience.

Too expensive for Malaysian and kids(>5 need to pay), to spend 15-30 minutes in this place.

The whole place is quite small with 3-4 interesting illusions. The rest are a very common Google images.

Would not recommend this place especially the once with kids.

Fantastic from start to finish. Not very popular amongst tourists and mostly visited by locals and students.

Entrance fee is reasonable, the content is sufficient enough to satisfy a visitor.
Its inside of a heritage building and staff is helpful.

A quiet museum in the city. Is not a big museum but worth a visit to see the history of communication in Malaysia.
Not wheelchair friendly though. One needs to climb stairs to get to the exhibits.

Pretty cool, the museum section is quite small though compared to the entire building, but nevertheless still worth to visit. RM 4 for locals I think, RM 8 for foreigners

Got a discount for Malaysian students (you’ll need to show proof that you’re a student). Not sure if it’s applicable to others. The price isn’t bad—there’s another exhibition on a different floor, but that one’s not free.

Museum’s building is large and very jmoressive architecturally, it’s staff are all very welcoming, helpful and nice people, and the exhibition coversrpetrty much all historical steps of telecommunications development in Malaysia! However, though richnin original exhibits, it could be larger and even more interesting, interactive, space wise, given the size of its building. Nevertheless, very worth visiting!

(Tayangan short movie ala-ala Yasmin Ahmad punya story telling dan shot video, video2 rakaman lama dari family2 chinese). Kawasan bangunan cantik dan bersejarah. RM4/pax tiket.

It’s a decent museum. It tells history and stories about Royal Malaysian Police forces. The museum is divided into 3 parts with different topics. The museum is not that big, very dark, some rooms are hot with no air conditioning. The police guarding the museum is okay, almost zero interaction, he just told us about the 3 separate sections, nothing special. I really like their collection of vehicles though. It could be better, should be maintained more and get upgrades. Free entry btw.

Walaupun ia kecil berbanding muzium nasional lain, tetapi ia menawarkan value-for-time tinggi — “real gem” bagi mereka yang nak tahu cerita polis Malaysia sambil menikmati lawatan santai dalam kawasan hijau Kuala Lumpur. Salah satu muzium terbaik yang tersembunyi di ibu kota!

Kalau rodong nak versi dalam gaya loghat Pahang atau dalam bahasa Inggeris pun koi boleh susun terus.

Visited the Police Museum in KL recently. The good part is that parking and entrance are free, and the car park is located about 150 meters before the museum, on the right side of the road.

However, the overall experience was quite underwhelming. The museum itself lacks air conditioning, making it very hot and uncomfortable inside, especially during midday. It’s hard to properly enjoy the exhibits when you’re sweating and just trying to stay cool.

The collection is decent, but the presentation could be improved. Would be a lot more enjoyable if they made the environment more visitor-friendly. Only recommended if you’re a big history buff and don’t mind the heat.

Impressive collection of weapons and uniforms. The exhibits are eye opener to the history of police in our country. Even the setting is authentic.

Admission free. Lack of air con at Galeri A and C so need maintenance.

It’s truly an awesome experience! Now i really know how Royal Malaysian Police started here in Malaysia. The uniforms, the lighting, the setup even the weapons are mesmerizing Complete with police officer guidance, i really love how Leftenan Adnan story together with perfect setup to imitate the scenery at Bukit Kepong Would visit again for the awesome vehicle picture⭐

Simple & quiet museum with almost no guests. Very nice staffs. Large collection of police equipments (armored cars & rail, boat, small aircraft), weapons from secret societies & other historical periods. Free admission. Recommended for 2 hours.

It was overall a good experience to learn about the history of our Malaysian police force. The historical artifacts on display were quite complete and well-preserved. However, there’s room for improvement—particularly the air-conditioning, as the gallery felt stuffy and dusty. It was also rather dim, making it difficult to read the information displayed.
