In general the service was fine at Haywood Senior Living Bangsar. However, the deposit refund procedure is inappropriate and should be reviewed as the experience was good up until that point. Any reviews should be voluntary and genuine rather than part of a set process that affects the refund of a deposit. Reviews should be earned rather than forced upon.

I need to file a complaint about your branch’s management for failing to fulfill their responsibility to care for the elderly residents under their care.

My grandmother moved in on November 1st. During the first week, on the third day, she complained to me that they hadn’t given her insulin injections despite her having severe diabetes. By the fourth day, it was visibly evident that her feet were swelling due to her diabetes. When I requested video proof that they had administered her injections, the following day, my mother visited and asked my grandmother. My grandmother confirmed that she had received the injections, which means she wasn’t lying about not receiving them earlier.

Additionally, I frequently heard from my mother that my grandmother was served overly sweet tea. I explicitly instructed them not to provide her with any sugary drinks. Despite this, during a medical checkup on the 14th, her blood sugar levels had risen from 9 to 13.

Yesterday, when I went to speak to the person in charge about this issue, she refused to acknowledge any responsibility, instead blaming my mother, claiming that we often brought outside food for my grandmother, which caused her blood sugar to rise. Her response was not only irresponsible but also rude, and she asked us to leave the nursing home.

Previously, when I visited my grandmother, other residents also frequently complained to us about the poor food quality and inadequate portions. On one occasion, when my mother visited my grandmother, she found her so hungry that her whole body was trembling.

Just earlier, my mother went to visit my grandmother, and the person in charge, Mona, displayed a very unfriendly attitude toward her. She even told us to finish out the month and then they would refund us so we could leave. The food provided there mostly consists of vegetables and staples, and the portions are insufficient to satisfy an adult. Mona claimed that if she gave them three pieces of meat, they wouldn’t finish it and it would go to waste. Is this how a compassionate manager should run a facility?

Not only is she irresponsible, but she also refuses to accept any of our suggestions and directly told us to leave. Her handling of this situation has left me extremely disappointed.

She also claimed that they cannot serve meat, yet for some patients with kidney disease, she allowed them to eat spicy food. When I questioned her about this, her response was that those elderly patients are already dementia and should not be trusted.

My mother and aunt are in this home. She and my aunt are very happy and very well taken care of and we have never anticipated any issue concerning food, medication and care. Once the patient is diabetic and has severe health issues they have to be on strict diet and weight control. My mum and aunty are very happy there,in fact my mum misses the home whenever we take her back. Everyday there is physical activities, massage physio without fail. The problem is diabetic patients find it hard to control their intake of food, diabetes in a person’s body will make them eat more. Am happy the with the amount of food is given and not over feed them. When we send our loved ones to a home they have to accommodate to healthy food , if you dont want that then their health will distoriate if you not happy then take them to either Chinese home for elderly or Indian home for elderly or Malay Home for elderly. Here is mixed races and the owner is exceptionally good becos she cooks in a way where all of them enjoy the food. The problem is one patient ordering grab food everyday on his own, sometimes their loved ones bringing outside food. Once in awhile they can get a treat a little bit if treats..So if every individual wants to complain it’s very difficult for the owner. Most of the patients there have dementia including my mother who can’t remember what she had for lunch. My aunty is totally dementia. I am there at the home everyday I don’t find any issues. The caretakers there are extremely loving to each one of them. So if you’re not happy just take your mum to different home and not pass any wrong judgements it’s not very nice to spoil someone’s rice bowl. So far I have seen the love and care each of the patients have been given. The owner has to be strict with the diet and the amount of food they consume so they won’t put on weight and control all other ailments. There are so many dementia patients in the home. They just cannot remember . It’s not good influencing other patients there,if you are not happy then do the necessary to find another home. It’s not right and professional to get other patients involved and brain washing them, it’s for their families to see and decide as the days go by. Don’t create politics in the home. It’s not good when the rest if them are happy.

Poor service for a bed confined Parkinsons patient. Left to sit by himself without a bed railing or a caretaker. Meals are just left there when he is unable to feed himself and taken off after 1hour or so. Flies in the room because no daily cleaning. They had only 1 An in morning shift with 1 foreign worker as caretaker. Night 1foreign worker with his wife. Service is very poor though outlook and location is ideal . More complications for my husband after the fall. Never recommend this place in future. With only 2workers for almost 15 to 20 patients. VIP s are given special care so apparently no complain from them. Health Ministry should have regular checks on all Nursing home for their citizens

Frequently Asked Questions about Nursing Homes in Kuala Lumpur

What types of care do nursing homes in Kuala Lumpur provide?

Nursing homes in Kuala Lumpur offer a range of care services, typically including residential care, personal care, and specialized care for individuals with medical needs. This can encompass assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating, as well as medication management, wound care, and physical therapy. Some nursing homes also provide memory care for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

How much does it cost to stay in a nursing home in Kuala Lumpur?

The cost of nursing home care in Kuala Lumpur varies depending on several factors, including the level of care required, the location of the facility, and the amenities offered. Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from approximately RM 3,000 to RM 8,000 or more per month. Costs often increase with the addition of specialized services or private rooms. It’s essential to obtain detailed cost breakdowns before making a decision.

What qualifications and licensing do nursing homes need to operate?

Nursing homes in Kuala Lumpur are regulated by the Ministry of Health and must obtain a license to operate. The licensing process involves rigorous inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations. These regulations cover aspects such as staffing ratios, building safety, infection control, and resident care plans. Verifying the facility's license is crucial.

How do I assess the quality of a nursing home?

Assessing the quality of a nursing home requires careful observation and thorough questioning. Consider visiting the facility at different times of the day to observe resident-staff interactions and the overall atmosphere. Check for cleanliness, safety measures, and resident activities. Speak with residents and their families to gather their perspectives on the care provided and the overall environment.

    What is the staff-to-resident ratio?

The staff-to-resident ratio is a key indicator of the level of care residents receive. A higher ratio generally means more personalized attention and quicker responses to resident needs. Regulations specify minimum staffing levels, but facilities may exceed these requirements. It’s important to inquire about the ratio for both daytime and nighttime hours, as they often differ.

How are resident care plans developed and reviewed?

Resident care plans are individualized documents outlining a resident’s needs, goals, and care strategies. These plans are typically developed by a team that includes the resident (if able), family members, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Care plans are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect changes in the resident’s condition or preferences. Family members are generally involved in the care planning process.

What activities and social programs are offered?

A good nursing home should offer a variety of activities and social programs to promote residents’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These activities may include exercise classes, games, music therapy, arts and crafts, and outings. A diverse range of activities helps to prevent social isolation and improve quality of life.

What happens if I have concerns about the care my loved one is receiving?

If you have concerns about the care your loved one is receiving, the first step is to discuss them with the nursing home’s administrator or the charge nurse. If the issue is not resolved, you can lodge a formal complaint with the Ministry of Health or other relevant regulatory bodies. Maintaining detailed records of any incidents or concerns is advisable.

Can I visit my loved one as often as I like?

Generally, you can visit your loved one as often as you like, subject to any facility guidelines or health restrictions. Nursing homes often have designated visiting hours, but exceptions may be made for special circumstances. It's important to coordinate visits with the facility staff to ensure minimal disruption to residents and staff.

What financial assistance options are available for nursing home care?

Financial assistance options for nursing home care can be complex. While there isn't a specific government subsidy solely for nursing homes, options may include assessing eligibility for various social welfare programs or exploring potential private insurance policies that may cover some long-term care expenses.
