Didn’t attend mass but came to have a look. It’s a really beautiful and unique church. I’ve been to many Catholic churches around the world and haven’t seen anything like this before. It’s very modern and minimalistic inside with the stages of the cross in white, and some beautiful contemporary stained glass behind the altar. There’s big screens on either side of the altar too. Mass must be very special here. ️⛪➕

I usually visited St. John’s Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur and was struck by its quiet beauty and sense of peace in the middle of the bustling city. Tucked away near Bukit Nanas, this historic Roman Catholic church offers a calm, reflective space with simple yet elegant architecture—whitewashed walls, stained glass windows, and a warm, welcoming interior. The atmosphere inside was serene, whether during Mass or just a quiet moment of prayer. It’s not just a religious site but also a meaningful cultural landmark, reflecting KL’s spiritual diversity. Whether you’re attending service or just passing through, St. John’s Cathedral is a lovely place to pause and reflect.

A beautiful Church with very helpful parishioners serving as wardens.

However they have a parish priest with a rotten attitude towards visitors.

I was asked by another family to click their pictures after mass and was obliging when he came in creating an issue for standing too close to the graves, which are incidentally placed on the walkway of the Church.

Why bury people in the center of the aisles if everyone walks there anyway? Or why not be more accommodating like other Parish Priests and show some decency to visitors? Hypocrisy at it’s finest.

My first ever Palm Sunday Mass abroad and I’m doing it right a this place

The church is awesome and great, it got the old colonials architecture and there weren’t using the AC, instead they are using a big fan from the ceiling

One of my best experience from having a mass abroad

Do visit this church when you are in KL. It is a place where you can spend time with Jesus – even for few minutes. Architecture (gothic I think) is old but well maintained. You can take a photo of the facade with the Merdeka bldg in the background.
It houses a first class relic of Saint Anthony. Blessed salt and oil and holy water are available. Don’t forget to light a candle at Mama Mary’grotto before heading to your next destination. Prayer has immeasurable power.

Although it is a religious occasion, after going to Chinese youth church CYC, Sunday and Saturday worship many times, I always feel that sometimes the sermons are really like success studies. I hope that when someone sees my comments, you will have a critical mindset. Forget about the church cell group itself, it is vulnerable, and it is equivalent to nothing.
If you are a KL person who wants to change to Fga CYC from another church, you really have to think clearly. If you are an outsiders or non KL born persons, you should look try look for another church first. For me, if it is not my working day, I will still attend the Sunday worship, but I will not pay to go to a large worship events.
Jesus or Christ is not my religion; it is my life. I will yearn to pursue the truth, understand His will better, and yearn to be closer to Him and learn His style.

It’s a comfortable setting for a wake. FGA provides a cosy, peaceful and calm environment for those who mourn. The ability to connect family from far via Zoom was great.

However, the sound system could do with some improvement. The fallout of the sound, squeals and screeches were a little painful on the ears, especially when emotional eulogies are shared.

The worship is heartfelt, the messages are filled with truth and encouragement, and the love of Christ is felt in every handshake, smile, and prayer. This rustic old church, if not for the crude whitewash, could be an original vintage. It might be a strong candidate for a pilgrimage destination if given some love.

The cone style ceiling is uniquely pyramidal. It is apt if worshippers experience any soothing sensation of healing, albeit the stifling warm air.

The bare ceiling is a sure motivation for a Michelangelo wannabe to replicate a mini Sistine Chapel.

Here sits ample potential waiting.

Woe to the shepherds of this “church” who lead the sheep astray, the sheep needs spiritual food, they need the eternal bread which is the word of the Lord, not the spiritual highs and the prosperity gospel which is a heresy!

Very hospitable church and gives you freedom and space just to come and go as you wish. I’ve noticed there are churches in Malaysia that asks you to register, then once they have your phone number, they call and text every week for months, even if you ask them to take you off their call list. This is not that kind of church. As a visitor or as a seasonal visitor, HTBB does very well. They have a vibrant core community and as a guest, it’s a blessing to just come and join the worship without any sense of obligations or borderline harassment that comes with “evangelizing” like other churches.

Nice church located at 8th floor (top level) of Lot 10 shopping mall. Beautiful view of KL city from here. Easy access from the lift & also escalator from car park. Very convenient church as located in KL city center, and easy access with public transportation. Relaxing environment, suitable for worship. Overall, the place is clean, well maintained, with clean toilet. There is a nice, small garden in front of the church. Also, a small cafe nearby there.

Great church. Go!
I was visiting KL from Australia for a few days, didn’t know a soul in town. had no idea which church, (and only just discovered what a Nasi Lemak was. Lol)

this one came up in Google.

Absolutely go there!! This is a good place.

Very refreshing and quality English service. (Also Chinese in other room) Great leaders, intelligent and spirit filled. lively worship and a large enough group for you to just blend-in unoticed, (if you want to) not a wacky or off spirited group, well grounded.

It’s on the top roof level, keep going up past Don Don donkey. Literally the roof.

If you want to speak with anyone post-service you will most likely need to actively start a conversation as this is a larger church with a lot going on. Also thanks to Ryan the musician (drummer) for hanging out (what a legend!!) and Terence for sitting and chatting with me in the new friends lunch. I would defiently return if in the area; given the opportunity. May God bless this church! ⛪️

10. Catholic Church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus (1960)

Catholic Church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus (1960)
Address
152, Jalan Peel, Maluri, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Rating

The Catholic Church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus possesses a certain historical charm, apparent from its longstanding presence. The architecture and general atmosphere convey a sense of tradition and reverence, providing a space where visitors can feel connected to a rich heritage. It seems a place of established rituals and community ties, offering opportunities for spiritual reflection.

The service appears to prioritize upholding established practices, a cornerstone for many seeking familiar and consistent worship experiences. The musical offerings, specifically the organ music, are frequently cited as a significant highlight, adding depth and beauty to the liturgical celebrations. It is a place where established spiritual guidance is delivered in a conventional setting.

Possibly one of the oldest churches in Malaysia. Very nostalgic & beautiful. But the star of the church is the organist. His magical fingers make all the hyms sound, catchy & refreshing…. Like an orchestra is playing.

I had a very disappointing experience at this church. As a newcomer, I was treated with outright disrespect, especially by the Father, Philip Chua who seemed to use his position and age as an excuse for his rude behavior. Instead of admitting his mistakes or addressing concerns respectfully, he dismissed valid criticisms by saying things like, “At this age, they’re just like that,” speaking about others in the third person as if their feelings and words were meaningless.

This attitude is not only dismissive but also deeply disrespectful. It’s incredibly disheartening to see someone in a spiritual leadership role use their position as a shield to justify such behavior. When others tried to address his rudeness, he ended the conversation by dismissing their comments entirely, hiding behind the excuse of being “older” and “more superior.”

This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in the 21st century. Being older or holding a title does not automatically make someone wiser or more righteous. Respect and humility are essential, especially in a role like his, and this kind of treatment makes it hard for newcomers to feel welcome.

A church should be a place of acceptance and respect, not a platform for arrogance and dismissal. I hope this feedback is taken seriously because this is not the kind of experience anyone should have, especially in a place meant to foster community and spiritual growth.

After reading all the other reviews below i realized Philip Chua also causes issues with other individuals. I suggest this church to take in the consideration of dismissing this father as it is clearly proven through everyone’s experience that he is not suit or ready to serve God whole heartedly.
