We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Ombak Kitchen and had a wonderful time. The food was fresh, tasty, and served in big portions — perfect for seafood lovers!
A big thank you to Amir, who gave us amazing service. He was friendly, helpful, and made the celebration feel extra special with his art & cheerful attitude.
Also, thank you to the kind female staff who helped us record a video to capture this beautiful memory. We really appreciate it!
Overall, we had a lovely experience and will definitely come back again. Thank you, Ombak Kitchen team, for making the day so memorable!

The food is superb. Every penny is worth it. All of the types of seafood are fresh big and most importantly its delicious. The sauce especially the cajun sauce is the winner. Masha Allah.
In addition to that, the service is top notch. All servers are working with the due diligence. Our server was Amir a sweet guy and very friendly.
Recommended place for you to try. Even if its pricey its a go to place for sure. Next time I will be bringing my wife here. I am sure she is going to love it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (9/10)
Overall, I would rate my experience 9/10. There was a slight delay in delivering drinks, but I completely understand as our group was quite large. The food was excellent — I highly recommend trying the signature Cajun.
I brought along orthopaedic surgeons from various states, and they all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. A huge appreciation to Nabila, who served us so well, and also to the friendly cashier (transferred from Putrajaya) — unfortunately, I didn’t get his name, but we had a lovely chat.
Prices are affordable, portions are generous, and the only minor downside would be the slightly limited parking.
Definitely a place worth visiting again!

First visit after reading so many positive reviews, and overall, it was a good experience.
Service was definitely a highlight — special thanks to Edris, who took great care of us throughout the meal and gave thoughtful recommendations.
We ordered several dishes, and most were quite good except for the King Prawns, which were a letdown. They weren’t fresh — the flesh stuck to the shell and tasted quite off compared to previous experiences elsewhere.
We had booked a VIP air-conditioned room, but unfortunately, the aircon wasn’t working. It was quite warm and stuffy, which made dining uncomfortable. Thankfully, Edris came to the rescue by arranging an extra fan.
Nabila and Amir also deserve a shoutout — they went the extra mile to make my wife’s birthday feel special, even singing a birthday song for her. A lovely touch that we truly appreciated.

Customer Reviews
Hokkaido Seafood Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur offers a good dining experience overall. The clams were on the smaller side, but they were still tasty and well-prepared. The shrimps and lobster were clearly frozen rather than fresh, which was a slight letdown, but the flavors were still enjoyable.
What really stood out were the rice and noodles — absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. They alone made the meal memorable. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, creating a nice setting for a relaxed dinner, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout our visit.
While some seafood items could be fresher, the combination of good flavors, pleasant ambiance, and great service made it a worthwhile experience. A decent spot to enjoy a casual seafood meal in KL.

This restaurant is an absolute delight because you feel the spirit of the city in it. The place is bustling with life as you see tanks of fresh fish and crustaceans and containers of vegetables at the front. There are tables outside and inside. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the service was fast.
But let me talk about the taste. The flavors are simple and complex and the same time. We ordered the fried sea bass which came crispy with a sauce that I believe had tomatoes and orange and some herbs. It was sweet and sour.
We ordered also noodles which were good and two kinds of fried rice, chicken and shrimp. Both were satisfying.
One of the highlights of the meal was the tom yum soup. It has shrimp, crab and octopus. The flavor was hearty and my family loved it.
One issue I had is that they added sugar to the orange juice which I hate but otherwise it was a wonderful experience for a tourist who wants to experience local seafood.

Taste:
Ordered the Tofu and Fish dish, if you want to experience a typical Chinese Restaurant that doesn’t serve Pork then this is the right place. The portion is big enough to be eaten with a few people or a big group. Personally, taste wise it’s a great place if you are craving for some Chinese Food.
Atmosphere:
There’s a lot of tables for you to eat and the area despite being both indoor and outdoor is kept clean and cool at all times. Would highly recommend if you want to have a lively dinner with a big group of friends.
Service:
The owner took our order and was pretty much straight to the point with no upsell and suggestions. The dishes was served pretty quickly but sometimes the server are pretty busy with other table and its difficult to get their attention.
Price:
Definitely not the cheapest especially the seafood but otherwise it’s a good place to have meal frequently.

Well priced seafood restaurant. Food is nothing spectacular, but overall still well cooked. Do note that their mantou with chilli crab is steamed instead of fried, which is different from the typical ones served. Enjoyed it.

If you’re looking for fresh seafood at an incredibly reasonable price, this restaurant is worth a visit. They offer live seafood, ensuring that everything is as fresh as it gets. While the taste is good, it’s not particularly outstanding—but given the price point, it’s a great deal.
One of the standout aspects is the local crowd. Seeing so many locals dining here is always a good sign, and it’s clear that the affordability is a major draw. The menu offers a variety of seafood options, all served fresh, making it a great spot for those who want quality seafood without breaking the bank.
Overall, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly seafood experience with live selections and decent flavors, this place is a solid choice. It may not be the most refined seafood dining experience, but for the price, it’s hard to beat.

Suraya Seafood Thai Restaurant appears to offer a quick and efficient service, which is a definite plus for those seeking a speedy meal. The food itself seems like it could be a satisfying experience, with options for various tastes. A potential benefit is the promptness of the service, which might be appreciated during a busy time.
However, it’s worth noting that concerns have been raised about the pricing structure and potential limitations regarding space for larger groups. While the menu seems diverse, confirming accessibility for all diners and checking on overall value is recommended before visiting.

We visited this restaurant with a group of 17 people, including 2 toddlers and 4 senior citizens. The adult rats were also part of our party. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. Two of us got separated during the visit. The restaurant is spread over a two-story and a one-story building, but the ground floor lacked enough space, and they were unwilling to open the upper level to accommodate us better.
During ordering, a large group of about 30 customers arrived, and the waiter abruptly left our table to serve them, leaving us halfway through our order. The larger group was seated after about 10 minutes at upstairs. What the heck, we ask for the seat, they said not open.
This was our first time here, and honestly, we wouldn’t consider coming back. We prefer to explore other restaurants with better service and space management.
Not in the mood for the food.

Decided to try this place and just went for the kuey teow celup and megi celup. Service was surprisingly fast, which was great. Also ordered kerang bakar and some lokcing sausages, had to order them at the front but they could deliver it to the tables, not many options though
Drinks came pretty quickly too, but even though I asked for less sugar, it was still quite sweet.
I had my celup with chicken and beef, the chicken was okay, but the beef was honestly a letdown. It wasn’t tender, looked dry and not fresh, and was really tough to chew. The pieces were also cut too big, which made it worse.
Taste wise, I wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t the best mi celup I’ve had. The flavour felt unbalanced for me, very tangy, which overpowered everything, and it was a bit too salty for my liking. The condiments were fresh, but they didn’t help much with the overall taste.
The megi celup was pretty much the same, just with that familiar thai megi seasoning flavour standing out more.
The kerang bakar was just okay. The clams looked fresh and were quite big. They didn’t overcook them, which was nice, but the green dipping sauce that came with it was pretty average.
The place was super crowded, like, uncomfortably packed. It’s not wheelchair or stroller friendly at all. I kept getting bumped into, and almost tripped a few times with people moving around so much.
One plus, there’s paid parking just behind the restaurant RM5 per entry, which made it easier to park.

Seafood lovers, this place is a gem in KL! ✨ Tried the famous Four Heavenly Kings , prawns were huge and super fresh, clams (lala) were juicy and sweet, every bite tasted like the ocean . What really surprised me was the seafood porridge , rich, comforting, and filled with natural seafood flavor, the kind of dish you just want to hug after a long day . Steaming style keeps everything light yet flavorful, no need for heavy seasoning. Service was friendly, vibe was cozy, and honestly it felt like a feast without being overly fancy.
Definitely a spot I’d return to again (and again)! ✅

The food was fresh, the service attentive, and the atmosphere warm and comfortable. Definitely a great spot for seafood lovers — will be back again!

I came by after seeing the strong reviews (plus the promise of free tiger prawns for leaving one!) and was glad I did. We managed to get an outdoor table without a reservation, which was a nice surprise. The dining concept here is pretty unique: seafood is steamed on the top layer, and all the natural juices drip down to slowly cook a porridge underneath. By the end of the meal, you get a richly flavored porridge infused with all that seafood goodness. The seafood itself was really fresh, and the staff made the experience even better, attentive, quick to clear plates, and always ready to help serve the food. Overall, a really enjoyable meal and definitely a 5/5 experience for me.

First time here. Have been wanting to try this out for a while… service is very good. The staff will help to cook the items and even de-shell the prawns for you if you want. Seafood is super fresh! We enjoyed every item but forgot to take a photo of the squid with glass noodle. I found the prices to be reasonable.

Steam Era Seafood

2nd visit and still amazing! The salted egg mantis prawn is really good! The food here definitely deserves 5 star. The most amazing dish was the Thai style creamy sauce prawn/squid. It tastes amazing! Creamy and savoury. Pairs very well with rice.
The fried chicken is another MUST order! It is crispy, well marinated with what I assume is prawn paste. It brings back so much old school taste memories.
The curry was good, slightly watery, not as thick. But still pretty good.
They close at 10pm. I would definitely come back if im around the area.

A friend brought us here, and we’re happy! The food he ordered for us was all delicious, we’re beyond satisfied
Sotong curry is recommended, the sauce blends in with the cuttlefish, even if you eat only rice with the sauce is also delicious.
Fried chicken tasted good also, but don’t eat it after you eat pork knuckle. It’ll tasted ordinary. The skin is crispy, the aroma is unique. My friend said it was made with fermented bean curd, that why it has a strange smell, but for me it was okay.
Pork knuckle……. the best! Can’t find the taste like this anywhere in my country. The knuckle is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, it blends well with the sweet and sour sauce. Soooo yummy!
Rice portion is big here. My tummy is happy

Just behind UTC. plenty of parking at night. Occupy 2 shops and even have seating upstairs (air cond) service very fast. Almost immediately a worker appeared to take our order. Very helpful with recommendations referring to their signature dishes photos pasted on the wall.
Food arrived shortly. Creamy fish meat curry. A lot of green inside the curry. Butter prawn and squid on banana leaf live up to its name. The slated egg mantis prawn was done just right. Sweet and salty to bite. The fried sweet potato leaf is normal. This is the original. Shop. Another shop almost similar name is run by another brother at Bandar baru sentul.
They are also well known for their steam sting ray in taucu sauce. Also German pork knuckle with Portuguese sauce. This is my 1st time here . Many times at the other shop. Glad it lives up to its name. Definitely coming back.
Even the price is a bit higher but you get your money’s worth.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was a child, and it never fails to bring back warm memories. Their signature curry fish is still as flavorful and delicious as ever rich, aromatic, and perfectly cooked. What really impressed me this time is how beautifully the place has been renovated. It’s now bright, modern, and very clean, but thankfully, the taste and heart of the food remain unchanged. So happy to see them keeping up the quality after all these years. Highly recommended!

Everything about this place was excellent. The food was fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. Portion sizes were just right, and the flavours were well-balanced without being too heavy. The service team was attentive and friendly, making the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
The ambience is cosy and welcoming, perfect for both casual meals and small gatherings. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, so it feels like good value overall.

The fish skin is super crunchy and tasty! I highly recommend their spicy hotpot fish—the portion is generous and perfect for sharing with family. The boss is very friendly and recommended dishes based on our preferences. The service is super fast. Highly recommend to all

Ordered their signature dishes, and they were a little underwhelming.
The Yam ring was powdery, and the Spice Chicken wasn’t robust enough. The other dishes were okay but not fantastic.
However, the ambience is comfortable and nice. Service was also excellent, especially their reservation staff.

Absolutely amazing! One of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in a long time. The dishes were packed with authentic flavour, served hot and fresh. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Clean environment, generous portions, and great value for money. Highly recommend — I’ll definitely be coming back!

The seafood here is undeniably fresh, which I appreciate. However, while the quality was good, the flavors didn’t stand out as anything special—just average. Given the high prices, I expected a more memorable dining experience. Service was fine, but the value for money felt lacking. Might return if there’s a promotion, but otherwise, there are better options for the price.

I recently enjoyed a beautifully presented unagi don set, and it was a thoroughly satisfying experience. The highlight was the bowl of warm, fluffy Japanese rice topped with tender grilled eel glazed in a rich, slightly sweet tare sauce. The eel was perfectly cooked—silky and buttery, with just the right amount of char to add a gentle smokiness. A sprinkling of fresh spring onions and a touch of nori gave a fresh lift to each bite.
The accompanying sides complemented the main dish well. The edamame were lightly salted and served warm, ideal for snacking between bites. The miso soup had a delicate umami depth, and the small tofu side dish added a pleasant, creamy contrast.
Overall, the meal struck a nice balance of flavours and textures. Presentation was inviting without being overly fussy, and portion sizes felt generous without being heavy. If you’re craving authentic Japanese comfort food with a focus on quality ingredients and simple, well-executed preparation, this unagi don set is an excellent choice.

Everything here was a hit — no misses at all! Every dish was super tasty and the seafood was incredibly fresh

I had a wonderful dining experience! The food was excellent, but the highlight was definitely the Jumping Live Prawns in Shaoxing Wine — absolutely delicious and full of rich, authentic flavor. The freshness of the prawns combined with the aromatic Shaoxing wine created a truly unforgettable dish. Highly recommended for seafood lovers looking to try something unique and flavorful!

The seafood pot is generous in portion and the soup is extremely delicious; I had two to three bowls. Other stir-fried dishes also come with abundant ingredients — the water spinach and salted egg yolk chicken are particularly tasty, which deserve high praise. So delicious! The environment is nice too.

Had a great time at Boleh Seafood Pot! The seafood was super fresh, especially the crab we got for free with our RM250 order Love the variety 8 kinds of seafood in one pot! The place is spacious, has karaoke rooms, and even free snacks. Perfect for group gatherings. Will definitely come back!

I was really disappointed with my visit to Boleh Seafood at Jalan Bukit Bintang. The food was not great at all — definitely not delicious as expected. On top of that, the cleanliness was very poor. I even saw a cockroach while I was there, which made me lose my appetite.
With so many better food options in Bukit Bintang, I would not recommend this place. Hopefully the management improves both the hygiene and food quality.

Halal food available here. There’s a wide variety of seafood to choose from. I really like the seafood hotpot and salted egg sotong. I accidentally came across a free crab promotion for spending RM250 — I chose the chili crab and it was really delicious! Don’t forget about the unlimited ice cream and snacks. I’ll definitely come back again. It’s also an easy place to get to after shopping in KL city, just a short walk away.

Can’t believe that Jalan Alor not only has grilled chicken wings, but also nasi lemak seafood platter and Thai-style grilled fish!
During dinner time, it’s really crowded! Luckily, the restaurant is very spacious, and you can choose to dine outdoors, indoors (with air-conditioning), or even upstairs in private rooms (with karaoke).
We ordered their special National Day menu – the nasi lemak seafood platter. The portion was generous, and the seafood was really fresh! The sambal was super fragrant and spicy – a love-hate relationship for me . The four of us ate to our hearts’ content and left very satisfied!
The grilled fish came in a Thai-style clear tomyam flavor – sour, spicy, and really appetizing! Everyone agreed it was delicious, especially since the fish meat was lightly pan-fried before being added to the soup, making it fresh and flavorful.
While waiting for food, you can also check out their snack corner – there are all sorts of titbits, candies, and ice cream to nibble on!
Since it gets really crowded on weekends, taking the MRT is a good option – it’s just a 3-minute walk away!

The Lankan Crabs offers a truly satisfying experience for seafood enthusiasts. The focus on authentic Sri Lankan flavors shines through in each dish. I appreciated the attention to detail, creating a welcoming ambiance. Their selection of crab preparations is impressive, highlighting the versatility of this fantastic ingredient. The spice levels are well-balanced, catering to a broad range of palates.
The service consistently demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction. It’s clear they take pride in sharing their culinary heritage. I would recommend trying the gearbox rice, which seems to be a popular and hearty accompaniment to the crab selections. Expect a slightly messy but wholly delicious dining encounter.

We had a decent sized group so were able to order a few dishes. We ordered crabs in three different sauces – black pepper, negombo curry and garlic butter. We also ordered the gearbox rice which is a big mutton rice dish.
The crabs were excellent – they were very full and packed with meat. I particularly liked the black pepper sauce but all three were delicious. The gearbox rice was also excellent. It’s a heavy dish and very filling. We finished off with paal appam with brown sugar.
Overall, it was a faultless meal. All the dishes were excellent and service throughout the meal was great. Best meal I had in Malaysia this trip!

Would have had 5 stars if a portion of the crab I got wasn’t fresh. Otherwise the negombo curry had amazing flavors. Not overly spicy. The fish cutlet was more like a croquette, but great as well. The appam was great, but you need to eat it quick or it losses it’s crispyness quick. The Staff were amazing, helpful. It gets messy eating crab, ask for a bit, they don’t give you one automatically.

The **Ngembo Crab** had a **well-spiced gravy**—just right for my **moderate spice tolerance** (not too fiery, not bland). I’d have loved a creamier texture, though! The Jaffna Prawn was decent. Get the coconut bread—it’s a perfect pairing.
Service was **attentive and quick**, a major plus! Heads-up: **Parking is tight** during peak hours.

We were amazed by the Mutton Paal Poriyal and Brinjal Moju at first. After we tasted the Masak Lemak Crabs, we really love the spices and coconut gravy, with multi layer of full flavours blended so well with extra fragrance & few kaffir lime leaves, this is definitely my top Masak Lemak crab in town!

First time here, not bad. A bit on salty side but if you eat with rice, this work just fine! Enjoy while you can.
For true crustacean lovers, a crab dish is more than merely any other ordinary dish. Every bite should be full of succulent, juicy crab meat – wrapped in flavours with perfection. So get ready to be blown away with flavourful Sri Lankan crab dishes at the best crab restaurant in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya – The Lankan Crabs.

Frequently Asked Questions about Seafood Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur
What types of seafood are commonly served in Kuala Lumpur?
Kuala Lumpur seafood restaurants typically offer a diverse selection including prawns, crabs, fish (often sea bass, grouper, and pomfret), squid, clams, and oysters. You’re also likely to find less common options like lobster and geoduck, depending on the restaurant’s specialty and seasonality.
How do I find reputable seafood restaurants in Kuala Lumpur?
Finding a reputable establishment involves several steps. Start by searching online reviews on platforms like Google Maps, Zomato, and TripAdvisor. Ask for recommendations from locals or friends who are familiar with the area. Checking for hygiene ratings and the restaurant's overall reputation is also advisable.
What is the average price range for a seafood meal in Kuala Lumpur?
The price range can vary widely. A simple meal like grilled fish might cost around RM30-RM50, while a more elaborate crab dish or lobster can easily cost RM100 or more. Many restaurants offer set menus which can be a more cost-effective option, particularly for groups. The cost also depends on the freshness and rarity of the seafood.
Are there any well-known or popular seafood restaurants I should consider?
Several restaurants are consistently praised. Restoran Seafood Village is famous for its claypot dishes. Janggi Seafood Restaurant is another long-standing favorite. Look for places known for steamed fish and chili crab. Don't hesitate to explore smaller, local eateries; these often have incredible and authentic seafood offerings.
What cooking styles are typical for Kuala Lumpur seafood restaurants?
You’ll find a range of cooking styles including steaming, grilling, stir-frying, claypot cooking, and deep-frying. Popular sauces and flavors include chili, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and black pepper. Expect a lot of delicious, savory, and often spicy flavors.
What’s the best way to ensure the seafood is fresh?
Assessing freshness involves looking at the fish's eyes (they should be clear and bulging), gills (bright red and not slimy), and the smell (it should be mild and ocean-like, not overly fishy). Ask the restaurant about their daily sourcing practices. Look for signs that the restaurant prioritizes freshness and handles seafood properly.
Do most seafood restaurants cater to dietary restrictions or allergies?
While not universally guaranteed, many Kuala Lumpur seafood restaurants are becoming more accommodating to dietary restrictions and allergies. It’s always best to inform the restaurant in advance of any allergies (such as shellfish, fish, or gluten). Restaurants often have options that can be modified to suit specific needs.
What is the typical ambiance or atmosphere of a Kuala Lumpur seafood restaurant?
The ambiance varies greatly. Some establishments are casual, family-friendly spots, while others offer a more upscale and romantic setting. Many are open-air or have outdoor seating to enjoy the tropical climate. The general atmosphere is usually relaxed and focused on enjoying fresh seafood.
Is it common to bargain for prices at seafood restaurants?
Bargaining is generally not customary at established restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Prices are usually fixed and displayed on the menu. However, at smaller, more informal stalls or markets, a slight negotiation might be possible, particularly if purchasing a large quantity of seafood.
What are some popular side dishes that are typically served with seafood?
Common side dishes include steamed rice, fried noodles, vegetable dishes (like stir-fried kangkung or Chinese broccoli), and soups. Many restaurants also offer a selection of appetizers such as satay or spring rolls to start the meal.
