Came here with my family of 6 for lunch. We ordered foei gras, lamb shoulders and wagyu beef for mains and tiramisu for dessert. Each dish was well cooked. My favourite dish was the foei gras. They make the tiramisu live in front of you – thought that was really interesting too.
Also shoutout to Akash, it was such a pleasure to be served by him. He is really thoughtful the whole time and we all felt so pampered with his service 🙂
PS: Was late for the review. Visited this restaurant in April 2025 with my family!

Thirty8 @ Grand Hyatt KL is that spot you book when you want to impress. The moment you walk in, boom — KLCC right in your face through the windows, and it only gets better once you’re seated. ✨
The vibe is elegant but not stiff, so you still feel comfy while sipping wine and taking it all in. Service was on point — not just the usual “serve and go” type, but the staff actually engage in conversation, which I personally love. Makes the night feel way less boring and way more memorable.
Food highlights: the Peri-Peri Chicken (so juicy), the Gruyere Mac & Cheese (pure indulgence), plus fresh sushi and salmon. And yes… we actually enjoyed the salad. A little silly to order at a place like this, but it balanced out the feast perfectly .
Their food does take awhile to be served, but honestly, that’s your excuse to pour another glass of wine and enjoy the view. Pro tip: make a reservation (this place fills up fast!) and go early — traffic around the area can be rough. We were 15 mins late to ours .
Our bill was RM921, and for the food, service, great experience and that iconic KLCC as backdrop? I would say, pretty damn worth it!

I celebrated my birthday at THIRTY8 Restaurant, Bar & Lounge in Grand Hyatt Hotel, and it was truly a memorable experience. The ambiance was elegant and relaxing, with a perfect mix of style and comfort that made the evening very special. The food and drinks were excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
What impressed me the most was the staff. They were not only polite and attentive but also made sure every detail was taken care of throughout the evening. Their unique way of presenting the birthday cake was a highlight—it was done so thoughtfully and with such style that it really set them apart from other places.
Overall, it was an unforgettable dining experience, and I would highly recommend THIRTY8 for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a wonderful evening out.

Hands down the best breakfast buffet I’ve EVER been to. The entire level of the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur offers international foods and drinks in a spectacular setting with amazing views and impeccable service. Our meal was free, compliments of the World of Hyatt card and a wonderful upgrade by the reception desk. (Comment if you’d like me to send you a referral link).

I have dined at Thirty-Eight three times, on different occasions. The first time I liked it, the second time I was not satisfied, the third time it was sublime. They have hired new star chefs and the food was excellent. Every dish ordered was superlative. Attentive service and kindness. I stayed for a special occasion and my guests were enthralled by the wonderful setting, with one of the most beautiful views of KLCC and petronas towers, the food and the service. Definitely worth considering for celebrating special occasions. Their signature cake is also absolutely worth it.

Visited THIRTY8 recently and the view is undeniably the highlight — located on the 38th floor, it offers a stunning, panoramic look at KLCC and the city skyline. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to impress a guest or just enjoy a scenic meal above Kuala Lumpur.
As for the food, it’s decent — nicely presented and reasonably tasty, though not particularly memorable. The menu has a good mix of options, but don’t go in expecting anything groundbreaking.
What fell short for me was the service. The staff were polite, but response time was quite slow. It took longer than expected to get their attention for basic requests, and the overall pace lacked attentiveness you’d expect at this kind of venue.
Overall: Come for the view, be prepared for average food and slow service. It’s a place that shines more for its atmosphere than its hospitality.

Lovely views of KL city and surroundings. Restaurant was also nicely decorated.
We came here for lunch (Mastercard promotion).
I think the food was alright – tasted nice but nothing special. And the presentation for the main dishes could be improved too.
What fell short was the service. We were greeted by a friendly and polite waiter who quickly took our order. However, the food came out very very slow. There was about 30 minutes wait between them serving the starters and the mains.
I also paid for the meal but then the waiter gave my receipt to my guest instead of me.

Our first experience having dinner at this restaurant. The view was 10/10 for me. The food was average taste, but still satisfying 8/10. The mushroom soup was the best among all the restaurants ive been. The cake cost RM70 & petals RM20. This one staff name Amira was very kind and helpful throughout our stay during dinner

Always a fun night at Fuego! Great food, great views, good vibes and the waiters are really well trained, professional and personable.
We had Man and a few more serving our table all through the night. They were very accommodating, taking loads of photos for us.
Cocktails were good too! Thanks Man The Man!

All the food, service, atmosphere and the view are perfect. It’s a wonderful experience for our family trip.
Well, actually the last dessert, chocolate and marshmallow is a little bit too sweet for us, but it’s not a big deal, and the rest of the meal is wonderful.
Also, we will like to give the service a 5 stars compliment, especially to our waiter, Fara, not only kindly finish the service, but also help us took lots of beautiful photos. Thanks to all of the staff, we enjoyed our meal very much.

I had a phenomenal dinner, Sunday night. The ambiance was magnificent and very enjoyable. Although it’s on the 23rd floor, there’s still a wonderful breeze and view of the KLCC area.
My server, Devi, was sweet and we were able to talk a bit about the area. She even took a few photos of me before and after dinner. I chose the 6:30 time so I could experience the sunset and the nighttime view.
As far as the food and drinks, they were really good. When I come back, I’d get a fish or seafood option. The beef ribs were so filling and falling off the bone. My favorite drink is not shown but it was a spicy margarita of some sort.

It was recommended by a friend.
The food pairing is interesting and delicious.
The environment is indisputable — with an unobstructed view of three of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic landmarks, it’s a perfect photo spot.
Accompanied by pleasant Spanish music, we slowly savored the dishes.
Worth mentioning — the waitress, Sara. With his guidance on ordering, we didn’t have to worry about over-ordering.
Even though there were quite a lot of guests, we never felt neglected; the service was attentive and he’s also quite good at taking photos.
Overall: satisfied, happy, and comfortable.

We booked the restaurant for our 25th wedding anniversary as we thought it would a special place to celebrate. The food was absolutely delicious and came out quickly. However, the service was very disappointing from the start. The person who ‘welcomed’ us just pointed to the closest table to the door even though there were other tables available and it certainly wasn’t that busy. It took a while to get a waitress’s attention so we could order, then the food came out before we could receive our drinks which we had to ask for twice. There was no offer of water and we were pretty much ignored. They didn’t even clear the plates from the table once we’d finished. There were plenty of serving staff, so not sure what they’re all doing. The service staff really let the restaurant down. One other note is that we were seated in the open bar area, so it was quite hot & humid – this was not clear on the booking that we made as we wouldn’t have chosen to be seated there.

Bijan Bar & Restaurant is an amazing place to experience refined Malaysian cuisine in a beautiful and romantic setting. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, perfect for a quiet dinner or special occasion.
The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was well-balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We especially loved the rendang and the kerabu salad. The staff was attentive and professional, and the service was smooth from start to finish.
Prices are higher than local street food, but the quality, ambiance, and overall experience make it totally worth it. If you’re looking for a modern twist on traditional Malay dishes, this is the perfect spot. Highly recommended!

Restaurant staff were very helpful and offered great advice about the dishes. The starter food selection was a tasty variety, the mains were flavourful and for dessert I particularly enjoyed the durian chocolate cake. Noting durian fruit is worth trying and have had before though not in chocolate cake, and it was delicious though may not be a dish for everyone’s liking due to smell.

Chef Darren Chin’s creations are not just beautifully presented, but every bite carries layers of flavour and precision. From the briny freshness of the oyster topped with delicate garnishes, to the rich, buttery uni on crisp toast, and the perfectly cooked wagyu with its deep, velvety sauce — every dish feels thoughtful and balanced. Even the desserts are light yet satisfying, a perfect ending that lingers without being heavy.
What makes it special is not just the food, but the way Chef Darren personally engages at the counter, carving, plating, and explaining his dishes with pride. It feels intimate, refined, and always enjoyable. Truly one of the best fine dining experiences in KL — consistently delicious, innovative, and worth returning for.

I’ve found the best steakhouse in Kuala Lumpur!
The atmosphere is calm and perfect for a date night.
You can get an incredibly well-made steak here, cooked exactly the way you like it.
Highly recommended if you’re a steak lover!

What a stunning meal with a mesmerising view! The dry-aged Australian wagyu ribeye steak was so tender, fatty, and juicy, perfectly paired with Shiraz. The desserts here absolutely blew me away. Glad I came.

Located just few steps away from KLCC. Breathtaking view of KL during the day and night. Great service and complimentary of breads starter, mini wagyu beef and dessert. Food tastes good. A great choice if you would like to indulge in nice wagyu beef steak. Recommend to take medium rare. Received Michelin award. Will have to check your body and bags just like in airport before get to access right to the dining place.

Celebrating a 17th birthday. We wanted to give our son a taste of fine dining for his birthday. Marble 8 was the perfect choice. The staff treated him with respect, which he really appreciated. There’s a clear dress code, which was a good experience for him. He ordered the Wagyu Burger and felt incredibly fancy, while my wife and I enjoyed our steaks. It’s definitely a place for a special occasion, and for older, well-behaved kids, it’s a wonderful way to introduce them to a more sophisticated dining environment.

I ate here many years ago and was disappointed. Decided to try again.. Another disappointment. The steak was not good. And the service, they try to be like high end restaurant but fail at basic stuff. Guy leaves the sauce on the table but don’t explain what they are. Told them during the appetizer, I don’t cheese or milk. Not faulting them cos I didn’t inform them ahead of time. But then comes dessert , cheese cake. They should now by now. So I send back the cheese cake. They just leave it at that and don’t offer nor ask if I want something else
Only nice thing was the scallops. Other than that, this place is all hype and without service or substance or value for money

Overall a decent steak place. Steaks were cooked well, 8/10. Quality was acceptable 8/10. Price was on the higher side.
Surprised by the mini sliders at the start.
Bread basket was alright 7/10. Cream spinach was too salty!
Brought out 1.5 yo there on a weekend. The only table with a kid. They accommodated to our request to well done a portion of the steak. High chair was clearly underused as it was super dirty. Had to wipe it down thoroughly.
Service and staff were nice.

Customer Reviews
Decor is tasteful and classy, but the ambiance is not. Seated at the chef’s table, guests can constantly hear kitchen crew taking and replying to instructions on their ear pieces – many occasions on trying to get guests to leave at scheduled times. The open kitchen is depressing to watch, with a tense atmosphere. Suggestions and feedback were met with “yes, but” responses.
Food was rather disappointing. All the proteins ordered were not fresh, from the uni, oyster and scallops, to the beef char siew. Only the musk melon and asparagus dishes were good.
Servers do not have the polish nor the attentiveness expected of a fine dining restaurant. The restaurant leaves much to be desired.

Came for a good experience and was definitely not disappointed. Deep, our server was friendly and very knowledgable. Explained everything so well. The chefs are made up of a group young men – so happy to see them putting their talent to good use! Benjamin is a good recommender who offered us a special taste….so thank you. KUDOS to the BAR KAR team. Well done!

We sat at the open fire table for my dads birthday dinner, food was delicious and came quickly, drinks took a while but they gave us a free dish to compensate, one minor thing was the kitchen expeditor was so pissed since the start and he kept cursing and we had to watch him curse and be mad which was giving negative vibes, but also entertaining at the same time. The service was good, but not the best. For a restaurant recommended by the Michelin guide , I did expect better. People go to restaurants to be taken care of, to be greeted with smiles and good chatter, unfortunately we didn’t have much of that from the staff. They were very serious the whole time and were focused on just making and serving the food ,in our eyes at least. Other than that my family had a lovely time.

The food and service were spectacular! We thoroughly enjoyed uni toast, 21 DAYS AGED BBQ ANGUS SHORT RIB, Berg rice, and grilled squid. The tastes were wonderful and we savoured every bite. It was a lovely experience to celebrate my birthday here with my family. The service was amazing as well. Would love to return with friends and family!

Overall, my dining experience at Barkar was pleasant. The food was tasty and of good quality, though not particularly impressive. The service could be improved, as the staff’s explanation of the dishes was not very clear. However, the atmosphere was fantastic – I really loved the restaurant’s design and overall vibe.

We had a wonderful experience. We made a reservation for 8pm but showed up at 7:30pm and there were no issues with that. Atmosphere is dark and romantic. Definitely a place to dress up for but we came in shorts and it was fine. The staff all treated us well. The cocktails are delicious. The food is pretty and we enjoyed some dishes more than others. They also take a photo of you at the end of the meal and have it printed as a souvenir which was thoughtful. Recommended for a date night or special occasion. The service is really where they shine.

We had an unforgettable dining experience at Beta, and it absolutely deserves all the Michelin recognition it has earned! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the host, Mr. Ibrahim, whose service was top-notch—professional, attentive, and personable throughout the evening. He made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of, adding a personal touch that truly elevated the experience.
The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Each dish was a creative celebration of Malaysian flavours with a modern twist. The presentation was stunning, and the taste was even better—layered, balanced, and thoughtfully crafted. Every bite told a story, and we were genuinely impressed by the chef’s ability to highlight local ingredients in such a refined way.
Highly recommend Beta for those looking for a world-class fine dining experience with heart, heritage, and hospitality. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend booked Beta for my birthday, and it was a memorable experience. At first, it felt a bit unusual—we were guided to a lounge area for drinks before heading to the dining room. I’m still not entirely sure why this step was included, but it turned out to be a nice touch. There, we learned about Beta’s concept and vision while enjoying a light appetizer, which piqued our curiosity.
Once we moved to the dining area, each course was a delight. The flavors, presentation, and storytelling behind every dish were exceptional, making the experience truly enjoyable. Using ingredients sourced from across Malaysia, the food was rooted in tradition yet presented in a modern, innovative way, elevating the joy of seeing, hearing, and tasting. Beta is undoubtedly one of the most unforgettable restaurants I’ve visited.

amazing if your a foreigner wanting to taste Malaysian food . but as a Malaysian our normal foods have more taste than the fine dining foods, for example the lamb doesn’t have enough salt, but the Nutty Whisky is a 10/10 must try

Elevated Malaysian food. Portion is just right and not excessive.
Definitely one of the best fine dining experience that I have had. Best value for money.
Biggest issue with the restaurant is its location – when we arrived, two rubbish bins went right between us and the reception.

The food amazed me! Initially I was sceptical reading the mixed review on the food. But it was so good! Especially the Unagi Japanese rice and Tokyo Salad! It was flavorful, the combination of food and presentation was spot on, everything was grilled and cooked to perfection. The sauced used was flavorful. My mum was so delighted with the birthday song sang by the staff! They were so friendly and attentive to everything . Very polite as well. Environment, need more to say? It’s a perfect view of klcc. After dinner we walk down to the entrance to get a closer shot of klcc at night. And they have 3 lighted bright arches near the entrance of the naza tower as well. Great for pictures!

I can still taste the food in my mouth. Taco, truffle tagliolini was top tier.
Pumpkin soup however, was a little too sweet.
Regardless, customer service was great. Ambience was beautiful, calm and quiet, not too crowded
You could reserve a spot for 2 hours at RM25/ person 🙂

The environment and design looks gorgeous and high class.
The view is really good as it has a view of klcc/twin tower can have many nice photos
The set lunch has many options and varieties and the price is normal, not expensive as we think or considering the location and environment.
Recommend petai rice set tastes really good. Cons : the mineral drink is expensive you know the reason
Is an option to have great lunch/dinner with very good view (request window seat)

Insanely good meal. 10/10 experience. The people here go above and beyond to create a comfortable and memorable experience. My husband and I came here after a chef friend did a pop-up and we were blown away.
We went in with no expectations, so we were extremely pleasantly surprised and impressed.
Everyone who loves fine dining that involves good storytelling and attention to detail should try this spot.

Akâr delivers an impressive fine dining experience that celebrates Malaysian flavors with creativity and depth. The dishes are beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted — a true showcase of local ingredients reimagined with elegance. Especially the dessert, a brilliant take on childhood snacks, turned into something refined and nostalgic at the same time.
However, the dabai noodle dish missed the mark; it lacked flavor, and the uni (extra cost) felt more like an afterthought than a meaningful upgrade.
Unfortunately, the service didn’t quite match the food; delays and inattentive staff took away from the overall experience. We were seated and there was no drinks menu handed to us until we asked for it after a while. We also weren’t briefed about the courses before starting on the culinary journey. Being awarded Tatler best 20 restaurant, this was highly disappointing.
Still, the food alone makes it worth a visit, and with improved service, Akâr could be truly exceptional.

Often, a fine dining establishment will have a sommelier to guide wine pairings.
How much should I expect to spend at a fine dining restaurant in Kuala Lumpur?
The cost of dining at a fine dining restaurant in Kuala Lumpur can vary greatly, but you should typically budget for a higher price point compared to casual eateries. A three-course meal, including appetizers, main courses, and desserts, can easily cost between RM150 to RM500+ per person, and this often doesn're include beverages or service charges. Special tasting menus tend to be even more expensive.
Are reservations essential, and how far in advance should I book?
Yes, reservations are absolutely essential at most fine dining restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Popular establishments can be booked weeks, or even months in advance, especially for weekend evenings or special occasions. It’s always best to contact the restaurant directly or utilize online booking platforms to secure your table.
What is the dress code for fine dining establishments?

A sommelier is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional. Their role in a fine dining restaurant is to curate the wine list, provide expert recommendations to guests, and ensure proper wine storage and service. They can help you select the perfect wine pairing to complement your meal.
What is a tasting menu, and is it worth the price?
A tasting menu is a curated selection of smaller portions of several dishes, often showcasing the chef's signature creations and seasonal ingredients. It’s a great way to experience a wider range of flavors and techniques. Whether it’s "worth the price" depends on your personal preference, but it offers a unique and immersive culinary journey.
What are the typical service charges and tax rates applied?
In Malaysia, a 10% service charge is commonly added to the bill at fine dining restaurants, in addition to the prevailing Sales and Service Tax (SST). These charges are separate from the price of the food and beverages and reflect the cost of service and government taxes.

If you have a negative experience at a fine dining restaurant, it’s best to address the issue with the restaurant manager during your visit. This allows them to address the concerns promptly and attempt to rectify the situation. If the matter isn’t resolved satisfactorily, you can also contact the Malaysian Consumer Rights Commission to lodge a formal complaint.
Are there fine dining restaurants offering vegetarian or vegan options?
While traditionally meat and seafood dominated many fine dining menus, there’s a growing trend toward inclusive dining. More and more fine dining establishments in Kuala Lumpur are now offering thoughtfully prepared vegetarian and vegan menus. It’s always best to check the restaurant’s website or inquire directly when making a reservation.
